    Save on Smaller Moves

    Backloading & Shared Loads

A cost-effective way to move interstate when you don't need a whole truck to yourself. Rod combines several small jobs on the same trip — careful handling, lower cost, flexible dates.

    How It Works

    What Is Backloading?

Sharing truck space on a route that's already being driven.

Backloading means your goods share space on a truck that's already travelling your route. Instead of paying for a dedicated truck, you pay for the space your belongings take up on a combined trip. It's the smart choice for smaller loads, part-house moves, or a few items going interstate.

Rod plans these trips carefully, combining several small jobs so each customer pays only for the space they need — while still getting the same careful wrapping, blanketing and strapping that goes into every Armstrong Removals move.

    Two Options

    Dedicated Truck vs Shared Load

Both get the same careful handling — the difference is scheduling and cost.

    Dedicated Truck

The truck carries only your goods. You get definite loading and unloading times, and the same crew handles both ends.

    • Only your goods on board
    • Definite loading & unloading times
    • Best for full-house or time-critical moves

    Shared Load (Backloading)

Your goods share space with other small jobs on the same trip. More affordable, with loading and unloading planned around the shared schedule.

    • Pay only for the space you need
    • Ideal for smaller loads & flexible dates
    • Same careful wrapping & strapping

    Plan Ahead

    Tips for a Backload Move

A little flexibility goes a long way.

    • Book 4–6 weeks ahead where possible, especially during school holidays and year-end.
    • Be flexible with your dates — backloads are scheduled around combined jobs, so a window of a few days helps us find the best fit.
    • List your items accurately so we can plan the space. Use our detailed quote inventory to get a precise cubic-metre total.
    • Armstrong Removals holds general freight insurance covering pick-up and set-down of goods. It does not include in-transit insurance; check your home and contents policy or arrange transit cover.

A dedicated truck carries only your goods with definite loading and unloading times. A shared load (backloading) is more affordable but scheduled around the combined jobs. Tell us your load size and timing and we'll recommend the option that suits you best.

Yes. The same care applies to every move — your belongings are wrapped, blanketed and secured with lay-flat strapping for transit, whether you choose a dedicated truck or a shared load.
